MOUNT DORA, Florida — A floor manager for a local movie theater is accused of stealing nearly $3,000 in fraudulent refunds.
In early January, Mount Dora Police responded to Epic Theatre, 2300 Spring Harbor Boulevard, Mount Dora in reference to multiple thefts by a floor manager, according to a probable cause affidavit. The general manager of the theater discovered Robyn Chambers, 48, of Eustis, had been issuing unauthorized refunds and pocketing the cash. She is also alleged to have “attempted to make a deal” with a local chain pizza restaurant and opened an unauthorized account with 36 movie tickets, drinks and popcorn valued at $639, the affidavit states.
From October 2019 through December 2019, Chambers was caught on video multiple times issuing fraudulent refunds on tickets and concession items. The general manager was able to match video surveillance with audit forms and believes Chambers stole approximately $2,876.75. In one video from Dec. 6, 2019, a couple purchases an item from the concession stand and Chambers is seen leaving the drawer open and removing cash from the drawer. She attempts to match the money from the false refunds she enters into the legend of the register; she then leaves the concession area, cash in hand, according to the affidavit.
Chambers spoke with police and said she brought in the remaining pizza coupons she had received from the unauthorized trade she made. She admitted to stealing and said, “with so many thefts of the concession stands, she can’t remember all the thefts,” the affidavit states. She did cooperate with police and stated she wants to pay back the money and had already set up an appointment with management to repay the money.
A warrant for Chamber’s arrest for grand theft was issued in January and she was picked up Wednesday and taken to the Lake County Jail. She was released on $2,000 bond.
