LEESBURG, Florida – A man with an alleged gang affiliation who was shot multiple times in two different shootings and refuses to cooperate with police, has been charged with possession of ammunition by a convicted felon after bullets were found in the car he was in when he was shot in March.
On the afternoon of March 28, Leesburg Police responded to UF Health Leesburg in reference to a man seeking treatment for two gunshot wounds. LPD arrived and found Terry Louis Johnson, 29, to be “extremely confrontational” and uncooperative with police. He told police he was in the passenger seat of his girlfriend’s car when he was shot; officers informed him his injuries were on his left side which would indicate he was driving. Hill would only say he was on his way to play basketball and it was a case of mistaken identity. Johnson refused to allow an officer to photograph his injuries, according to a probable cause affidavit. He refused to prosecute, sign paperwork or speak with officers, and rolled over and acted as if he was asleep.
“We can’t solve cases without cooperation,” said Leesburg Police Capt. Joe Iozzi.
This was second time Johnson was shot in less than five months. He was shot in a field off Nebraska Street in Leesburg on Dec. 9, 2019. He was airlifted for his injuries in that shooting.
Officers made contact with Johnson’s girlfriend, who drove him to the hospital and she told officers he dropped her off at work around 12:15 p.m. that day. At 12:50 p.m., a friend of Johnson’s went inside the woman’s job and told her Johnson was in her car suffering from gunshot wounds. The woman went outside and found Johnson in the passenger seat and drove him to the hospital.
Johnson’s friend told police he found Johnson in the parking lot of his girlfriend’s job already shot and went inside to get the woman so she could take him to the hospital. The man, who Lake Legal News is not identifying because he was not charged with a crime, also told police both he and Johnson are affiliated with Folk Nation, a gang well-known throughout the United States.
Lake County Sheriff’s Office CSI processed the vehicle and evidence showed Johnson likely discharged at least two rounds during the shooting. Ten live 9mm rounds were found in the center console, along with one spent shell casing that matched the bullets found in the console.
“He was obviously in a gun fight,” Iozzi said. “We have zero tolerance for people involved in gun fights.”
A warrant was issued for Johnson, a five-time convicted felon, on Thursday, and he was picked up early Monday morning. He is charged with possession of ammunition by a convicted felon and is being held in the Lake County Jail on $100,000 bond.
