EUSTIS, Florida — None of the teenagers involved in a tragic crash early Sunday morning that killed two of them, were wearing seatbelts, Eustis Police Cpl. Lauren Brown told Lake Legal News Monday afternoon.
Amari Traemaine Bedford, 14, of Webster, was driving the Nissan Altima when it crashed near Getford Road and Hicks Ditch Road at approximately 1:10 a.m., Brown said in a press release Sunday. LLN went to the crash scene Monday afternoon and it appeared Bedford failed to negotiate a curve and struck a tree. Broken glass and pieces of the vehicle still littered the scene.
Ny’Juan J. Hodge, 14, of Leesburg was in the front passenger seat and Torian H. Harp, 14, also of Leesburg, was in the rear passenger seat; Bedford and Hodge were pronounced dead on the scene. Harp remained in critical condition Monday at Orlando Regional Medical Center.
Brown would not answer several questions about the crash, because it is still an active investigation, he told LLN.
All three boys attended Lake County schools at one time, sources told LLN. There was a large car show and block party on nearby Bates Avenue Saturday and police are investigating the possibility the trio was headed there. A memorial Facebook post by local musician Cool Montana included photos of the two boys and had been shared at least 80 times by Monday afternoon.
