LEESBURG, Florida — An Orlando man was stabbed by his ex-girlfriend after he forced his way into her home, attacked her and tried to steal her money, and now he must answer for his crimes.
Leesburg Police responded to a home on Herald Drive just before 6 p.m. Saturday in reference to a burglary with a domestic battery and a stabbing. Hermy Jeshuabet Hernandez, 34, is accused of forcing his way into his ex-girlfriend’s home, punching her in the forehead several times, dragging her by her hair, taking money out of her wallet and punching her some more. The woman then stabbed Hernandez with a steak knife in the back in self-defense, according to an arrest affidavit.
The victim told police she and Hernandez had been in a relationship for about a year until she ended it about a month ago and Hernandez moved out and began living in his car. She told police Hernandez’ attitude changed, and he lost his job, she believed due to him using illicit drugs. The woman, whose job takes her out of town frequently, would sometimes let Hernandez into the home while she was gone to shower and rest.
She allowed Hernandez in the home on Friday and when she arrived on Saturday she cooked dinner; after cooking she asked Hernandez to take her to the store and on the way there Hernandez began acting strange and she asked him to stop and let her out of the vehicle. Hernandez got upset and began degrading black women; she asked Hernandez not to degrade her and as she was exiting the vehicle, he made a degrading statement about “Black Lives Matter” and the “riots,” the affidavit states.
The victim walked back to her residence and told Hernandez she did not want him there; he forced his way inside and she again told him to leave. She left Hernandez alone and walked into the kitchen to make a plate and that is when Hernandez allegedly attacked her. The victim had a large bump on her forehead and money was found lying near the entrance to the kitchen, according to the affidavit.
Hernandez was transported to Ocala Regional Medical Center by Lake EMS for treatment and to Leesburg Police Department for paperwork and then to the Lake County Jail. He is charged with burglary with battery, robbery by sudden snatching and domestic battery. He was released from jail on $28,000 bond.
