LEESBURG, Florida — A Leesburg man was charged with DUI with property damage and possession of marijuana and paraphernalia after he crashed into a local motel.
A Leesburg Police officer was assisting a citizen at a local convenience store when he heard a crash; he looked over and saw a red vehicle resting against Oakwood Motel, 2110 Citrus Boulevard, Leesburg. The officer drove over to the motel and noticed the vehicle backing away from the building and accelerating. The officer pulled into the driveway and the driver, later identified as Aaron Anderson of Leesburg, stopped, according to an arrest affidavit.
Anderson, 30, slurring his words, spoke with the officer and seemed confused about where he was. After seeing the vehicle had severe damage and a broken windshield, the officer called EMS to check Anderson out. While he was waiting, the officer made contact with the tenant of the room and found he was OK, but the wall was pushed in about one foot and a window was broken. EMS checked Anderson out and he refused transport to Leesburg Regional Medical Center.
Anderson changed his story about where he was going and where he was headed; and due to his glassy eyes and slurred speech he was given field sobriety tests. His vehicle was searched and a small bag of marijuana and a plastic smoking device was found. Anderson was taken to the Leesburg Police Department where he refused a breathalyzer test.
Anderson was taken to the Lake County Jail and released on $4,000 bond.
